Makayla Virginia Kopp was born on October 29, 2003 to Brad and Carla Kopp. She is the youngest of four with three older brothers, Troy, John and Tyler.
Her favorite subject in school is math. She loves math the most because when solving her own problems is too hard, at least she can solve for X.
One January Student of the Month for elementary school was Mason Johnson, a kindergartener in Mrs. Kocmich's class. His parents are Mark and Samantha. His siblings include his twin Gabriel, his sisters Ava and Sydney, and his twin sisters Lillian and Evelyn.
Sixth Grader Easton Sees was awarded middle school student of the month for January on Friday, February 11. He is the son of Joe and Janelle Sees and sibling to Lauren, Ali, Courtney, and Hudson Sees. He also has a three-year-old dog, Millie.
Senior Tiffany Pelton recently received a national award. National Girls and Women in Sports Day (N.G.W.S.D.) originated in 1987 following the death of Flo Hyman, female volleyball player. According to N.G.W.S.D.
On March 5, four AHS boys will compete at the State Powerlifting event in Salem at the McCook Central High School. These four students will include Kley Heumiller (11), Cody Soukup (11), Jaden Stahl (11), and Caleb Wallinga (10) who will be coached by Tim Liebel and Dakota Boden.
Avon Drama Department started practice for this year's two-act play. This comedy performance will be on April 9. The play is titled How I Met Your Mummy.
Mummy is a farce made up of eleven characters and based on the O. Howe Dulle Museum’s latest addition, a mummy named Yo-Wut-Sup.
Avon prepared 21 selections for the annual Vocal Contest in Vermillion on February 9. The judges rate each selection from one (the best score you can get) to five (the lowest score you can get).

Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA) is an organization for students who are interested in the healthcare profession. Avon’s HOSA chapter, led by Kim Vellek, started doing ‘Skillbuilders' this year to introduce the students to the different occupations within the healthcare field.
As tradition for the Avon choir, vocal director Autumn Schultz and the six seniors (Haden Cahoy, Makayla Kopp, Kiara Driesen, Tiffany Pelton, Katie Gretschmann, and Reece Loewe) sang Valentine’s Day serenades as a fundraiser for the senior music trip.
