PELTON RECOGNIZED BY NATIONAL GIRLS / WOMEN IN SPORTS DAY

Senior Tiffany Pelton recently received a national award. National Girls and Women in Sports Day (N.G.W.S.D.) originated in 1987 following the death of Flo Hyman, female volleyball player. According to N.G.W.S.D., “Since then, the day has evolved to commemorate all women athletes, their achievements, the positive impacts of inclusion of women in sports, and to address the challenges regarding equal participation of women in sports activities.”

Celebrated on February 2 this year in all 50 states, the recognition is intended to support, celebrate, and inspire others to play like a girl! With the enactment of Title IX in 1972, legislation mandates that equal opportunities must exist for males/females in sports offerings.

Pelton would have received her certificate at the February 10 at the Parents’ Night basketball game, but was absent due to illness.
