AVON 18U SOFTBALL RESULTS

Tuesday, June 14 Avon’s 18U Softball Team traveled to Menno for a doubleheader. In game one Avon got out to an early lead and held Menno down the stretch for a 6-3 victory. Avon was led at the plate by Katie Gretschmann who had 2 hits, hit by pitch twice, a stolen base, 2 runs scored, and a RBI. Other hitters for Avon included Sam Brodeen, Macy Voigt, Karlie DeVries, and Paityn Radack all with singles and Emma Yost added a double. Lydia Yost pitched a complete game for Avon, striking out 13 and walking 1 batter.

DAMAGING WIND STORM HITS WAGNER

Monday evening, June 20th an extreme wind storm blew through Wagner with winds clocked at 109 mph. A grainbin at CHS was destroyed, an Evergreen tree was blown over, roots intact just missing the home and a large part of a tree at Wagner Lake broke off and fell on the picnic shelter. Funeral services for John Greger, 75, of Wagner, were Fri-day, June 24, at St. John Lutheran Church in Wagner. Burial was in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements. Memorials will be directed to the Wagner Cancer Group and the Pink Ladies.

Greer Post #11 American Legion

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on June 16th, 2022 at the Post Home with 28 members in attendance. Ken and Mary Cotton were also in attendance as were Camden Roth and Paige Anderson who introduced by our Americanism Officer, Don Kotab. Camden and Paige both gave a brief thank you for the scholarships the Post had awarded them. Commander Rados thanked the cooks for the outstanding meal. Sharon Haar also thanked the Post and will make a sizeable donation from the memorials she received from Harris Haar’s passing. She is also donating the commemorative gun Harris had won a few years ago back to the Post for a raffle with the proceeds to be given to the Honor Flight Program. Commander Clayton Rados then called the members to attention. Chaplain Donald Kotab gave the invocation, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order.
