JACKIE BURKE

Jackie Burke passed away at the age of 57 on April 14, 2024 at Highmore Health in Highmore. She was a beloved daughter, mother, sister and friend who will be deeply missed by all.

Jackie was born June 1, 1966 in Wagner. She spent her formative years in Armour. She was active in high school, participating in tennis and basketball as well as playing in the school band. She went on to become a travel agent as well as a teacher’s aid later in life. Throughout her career, she was known for her hard work, dedication, caring nature, and singular focus.

She met Patrick Burke through work. They married in Aberdeen September 17, 1988 and had two sons together.

More than anything, Jackie was a devoted mother. Despite being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1991, she was determined to be an excellent parent for her children. She moved to Pierre with her two sons in 1997. She loved spending time with her children, encouraging, supporting and inspiring them. Jackie was often seen driving her scooter around Pierre with her boys and was a passionate supporter for all of their activ-ities. Jackie had a radiant smile and was always quick to make people laugh, even during the most difficult circumstances. She had a great sense of humor that shesharedwithanyonewhoknew her. She enjoyed being there for others and worked very hard to make their lives better. She loved to spend time with family and loved ones, often playing games of pinochle long into the night.

Jackie was also involved with her local church and community and was well-loved by all. Jackie enriched many lives during her stay at Highmore Health. She could frequently be found playing games of Farkle or winning games of bingo. She met many new and wonderful people while at the facility and was a blessing to all she encountered.

Jackie is survived by her children Michael Burke and Nicholas (Jantina) Burke both of Sioux Falls. Mother and Step-Father Ann and Jerry Wagner of Pierre. Sisters Judy (Dale) Apland of Bruce; Jennifer (Dave) Lavinger of Pierre. Brothers, Kenny (Linda) Koupal of Prior Lake, MN, and Darrel (Jeralyn) Koupal of Redondo Beach, CA, as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Koupal.

Two visitation services were held. The first was held April 18th at Isburg Funeral Home Chapel in Pierre with Rosary and a wake service. The second will was held April 19th at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner with a wake service. The funeral service was held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Wagner April 20 at with burial following.

Arrangements were with Isburg Funeral Chapel in Pierre and Peters Funeral Home in Wagner.
