Greer Post #11 American Legion

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on January 15, 2026 with 24 members and 5 SAL members in attendance. Commander Rados thanked the SAL members for the delicious dinner. John Crisman was the winner for the queen drawing but drew the queen of diamonds instead. We have a new member tonight as Dennis Soulek, a PUFL member, is moving his membership from the Geddes Post to the Wagner Post. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members. Commander Rados then called the meeting to order. We had a moment of silence for Legion member Richard Dvorak for his recent passing.

Funeral services for Jo Ellen Wormsbecher, 87, of Avon are Wednesday, January 28 at 10:30 a.m., at the Danzig Baptist Church, rural Avon. Burial is in the Danzig Baptist Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.

Rotary News

Wednesday January 21 turned out to be a very windy day in Wagner. Rotarians had a challenging time opening the door to their Rotary building to get to the meeting. The sun was shining but the wind was blowing so hard that it looked like a dust storm, even in January! It looks like we will be having an interesting rest of the winter in South Dakota!

Wayne Adolph Cihak, age 85, passed away on December 23, 2025, after courageously fighting a prolonged illness. He was surrounded by the love and presence of his family in his final days.

Forrest Farley, Jr., 83, of Pickstown passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2026 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. His wish was to donate his body to science at the USD School of Medicine. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date at the Pickstown Community Church.
