AVON WELCOMES NEW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT

Cade Faulkner, son of Misty and Marshall Faulkner, joined the Pirate family following the holiday break. As a junior, he made the transition to Avon from Lake Andes because of a desire to play quarterback on our football team. He may be new to our school, but he did find a familiar face.

A New Year’s resolution is a promise to do something different in the new year, but is this a dying tradition? Of the students selected for this article, half of them set a resolution. Senior Lincoln Thury has no New Year’s resolution for this year.

FAMILIES ENJOY HOLIDAY BREAK IN DIFFERENT WAYS

As the students left the building on December 21, they felt the relief of semester testing finishing up. Most wanted to catch up on sleep or lounge around before they returned on January 5, but not even the most invested sleeper can sleep away an entire Christmas break.

Kiara Driesen was born June 13, 2003 to Allan and Mary Driesen. She has three siblings: Caleb, Jayden and Treyton. Her favorite subject in school is choir. She loves choir because she loves music. Her most challenging task as a senior is deciding what she wants to do after high school.

FEEDING SOUTH DAKOTA

Feeding South Dakota food distribution will be held Friday, Jan. 28 at the Scotland Community Church at 8:45 a.m.; the Tyndall Fire Hall at 10:30 a.m. and at the Avon Fire Hall at 12 noon. This will continue to be a “drive-thru” distribution until further notice.

January 1912 The cold weather has interfered with attendance at school recently. Andreas Van Asperen, age 61, passed away at his home of pneumonia and heart failure on January 8th. A young eastern lady would like to get acquainted with a gentleman of the west. Will marry if suited.

The Carlson family would like to announce the birth of their son, Oliver Nedved. Oliver arrived on June 10, 2021; weighing 7lbs and 21 in long. He was welcomed by big sister Aurora, big brother Elijah and parents Stephanie and Adam Carlson of Rockton, IL.

LifeServe Blood Center, the SOLE supplier to over 120 hospitals in South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska, is seeking eligible blood donors to give blood at an upcoming community blood drive. Blood is a vital part of treatment for countless illnesses and injuries afflicting local hospital patients.

On Wednesday, January 12th, Becky Brunsing rang the bell to bring the meeting to order. Guests were introduced, Alaina Bechen, guest and daughter of Amanda Bechen. Pastor Laurie led the group in prayer. Laurie Kidd led the group in signing Clementine and Viva Rotary.
