January 1912

The cold weather has interfered with attendance at school recently.

Andreas Van Asperen, age 61, passed away at his home of pneumonia and heart failure on January 8th.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. P.J. Mclane, a fine baby boy, January 5th.

Mr. Ben Dirks has been seen humming over the roads in a new "Red Geared Buggy" with some one with him.

January 1936

The school page is called The Students Voice.

All the dorm kids want to thank Mr. Crosby for paying their tickets to the basketball game.

The girls are starting basketball now.

The Bards lost to Tabor.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Pier and family moved into the Laura Vaulk house.

Miss Helen Bushman is teaching for Miss Tilberg who resigned the first of the year. She is teaching first and second grades.

A young son of George A. Meiers fell from a high chair and lacerated his cheek.

January 1965

The Tyndall Panthers were crowned Bon Homme County Champs over Springfield. Avon lost 43-50 in the first game and lost 53-59 to Scotland the second night.

The Fire Dept. was called to a fire at the trailer home of Roger Ridgway located at the Janssen lot. No serious damage was reported.

January 1987

An old landmark - The first Baptist Church, goes on the auction block this Saturday.

The Pirates cruised to a 4-0 record by beating Centerville 65-60. Kevin DeJong scored 30 points and Paul Tjeerdsma added 20. They also led in rebounds.

Avon's newest sports is girls volleyball with 21 girls reporting.

Winter classes for Adult Community Education will be starting in January. Classes offered are Computer Literacy, typing, social dancing, photography, hair styling (by Deb and Nyla) and decorating with food.

Winners for $10 Beef Certificates from BH Livestock Feeders were Pam Myers and Joe Novak.
