Justin Ferwerda, son of Randy and Angie Ferwerda, was born on March 1, 2004. His sister Carmidy is a freshman at AHS. Ferwerda's favorite subject in school is shop because it is fun, and he gets to build stuff. Shop is also his favorite school activity.

As Homecoming week reaches the last day, students and community members come together for the Homecoming Parade. Construction on Main Street, however, forced Homecoming organizers to select a new parade route for the 2021 Homecoming Parade.

Every year the Avon Music Department puts on a tailgate supper at one of the home football games to raise money for the school year. This year the tailgate will be October 1. It will run from 5 to 7 p.m. when the team takes on Colome.

On Monday, September 6 at 7:30 p.m., Avon School hosted the 2021 homecoming coronation in the gym. The queen candidates included Makayla Kopp, Katie Gretschmann, Reese Powers, Reece Loewe, and Tiffany Pelton.

Feeding South Dakota food distribution will be held Friday, Sept. 24 at the Scotland Community Church at 8:45 a.m.; the Tyndall Fire Hall at 10:30 a.m. and at the Avon Fire Hall at 12 noon. This will continue to be a “drive-thru” distribution until further notice.

The conclusion of the South Dakota State Fair essentially brings the conclusion of the 4-H year for most youth. The Bon Homme County Extension office would like to congratulate all the members who exhibited items at the 2021 State Horse Show and South Dakota State Fair.

In May the Bargain Shoppe gave $2,000 to Good Samaritan Society-Tyndall. In June the Bon Homme 4-H program was given $500. In July the Snack Pack/Back Pack Programs in Tyndall, Avon and Scotland received $2,000 each. In August the elementary teachers in Avon and Scotland were given $600.

Sharon Van Gerpen, Darla Van Gerpen, Brynn Baade and Addy Fathke drove to Hull, Iowa last Wednesday where they had lunch with their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Bernice Heusinkveld at Aspen Heights.

LifeServe Blood Center, the SOLE supplier of blood and blood products to area hospitals, is seeking eligible blood donors to give blood at the upcoming community blood drive.
