Greer Post #11 American Legion

American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on August 15 with 29 members in attendance. Commander Clayton Rados thanked the cooks for the delicious meal. We had many guests for this month’s meeting.

RIGHT TO LIFE GROUP MEETS

The Tri-County Right to Life Group met Monday, August 12, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dakota Christian School. There were 12 members present, as well as Representative Marty Overweg. President Dan Hargreaves led the meeting.

10 Years Ago – 2014 Keith and Mardell Schroeder were chosen as the 2014 Labor Day Parade Marshals. 2014 Labor Day Queen Candidates were announced and included Emily Brunsing, Cheyanne Buck, Sadie Eitemiller, Taleigh Kaup, Hannah Mattis and Kristan Soukup.

AVON SCHOOL DISTRICT NEW STAFF SPOTLIGHT - ASHLEY CIHAK

The Avon School District will welcome a new K- 5th grade special education teacher for the 2024-2025 school year, Ashley Cihak. Ashley has been teaching for the past 14 years. Her entire teaching career until this year has been with the Wagner Community School District.

From Grandma's Recipe Box

This week’s recipe once again comes from my Grandma Norma’s Ober Family Favorites Cookbook. This recipe was submitted to the family cookbook by my grandma’s sister-in-law, Mildred Holec of Yankton. It is one that I have not yet tried myself, but after reading it thought it sounded yummy.

This month’s featured volunteer firefighter is Mike Petrik. Mike has been a member of the Avon Volunteer Fire Department for the past 23 years.

TALSMA BRINGS HOME 11TH PLACE NATIONAL RODEO FINISH

Rodeoing runs through the Talsma blood. This is especially true when it comes to Treyvan Talsma following in the footsteps of his father, Ty, and older brother, Terran. Treyvan who ended up placing 11th at the 2024 National High School Rodeo in the steer wrestling event.

BH DEMOCRATIC PART TO MEET

The Bon Homme County Democratic Party will meet Wednesday, August 8 at 7 p.m. in the Bon Homme County Courthouse. Discussion will be held on the upcoming National Convention, Fall Fundraiser and GOTV efforts.
