10 Years Ago – 2014 The Wagner Labor Day Committee of the 114th Labor Day Celebration included Mike Novak, Miranda Medricky, Ryan Beeson, Marla Hewitt, Mavrick Hill, Taylor Mohr, Amanda Gross, Greg Neilsen and chairman, Steve Cotton.

POINTER LEGACY CONTINUES ON

All roads lead to Springfield, this weekend, August 23-24, as the All-College Pointer Reunion gather to visit with former students, staff, and friends on the south side of the air-conditioned Community Hall (807 8th Street).

10 Years Ago – 2014 New teachers for the 2014- 2015 for the Avon School District were Becky Haenfler, Lauren Hayden, Tanner Wince and Travis Seitzinger. The Avon Post Office was close to closing its doors, as the Postal Service was trying to save money.

REUNION HELD TO RECOGNIZE 20 YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF DEPLOYMENT

Members of the National Guard 153rd Engineering Battalion of Wagner held a 20-year reunion since their deployment to Iraq for Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Organizers of the reunion were David Woods, Todd Link, Jason Kuhlman, and Greg Neilson.

VETERAN DIRECTED CARE PROGRAM

The Veteran Directed Care (VDC) Program is one of several Personal Care Services (PCS) providing supportive care to Veterans, allowing them to age safely and independently in their homes and communities for as long as possible.

WAGNER COMMUNITY SCHOOL

The Wagner Community School has hired first year teacher, Megan Zephier to teach high school art. Megan is originally from the Wagner area. She attended Dakota State University (DSU) to earn double bachelor’s degrees in Production Animation: Digital Media and Design and Computer Game Design.

ANNUAL PICKUP & TRACTOR/SEMI PULL HELD IN DANTE

The annual event held this past Sunday, August 18 is in its nineth year and is organized by the 11 members of the Dante Tractor Pullers Association. This year’s event had 85 hooks. As with each yearly event, it does seem to grow with the number of entries as well as spectators.

LSS OLDER ADULT RESOURCE NETWORK

Lutheran Social Services (LSS) of South Dakota launched the Older Adult Resource Network (OARN) in Douglas and Charles-Mix Counties in August of 2022. The mission of the LSS organization is “inspired by God’s love, we care for, support and strengthen individuals, families and communities”.

Rotary News

President Jordan Weber opened the August 14th Rotary Meeting with the ringing of the Rotary Bell and gave a prayer of gratitude for our organization; its members, and our future work to be done in the Wagner Community. There were two guests for the meeting.
