The Wagner Community School had four high school students and school prevention nurse, Kelly Cimpl, attend Scrub Camp on October 15th. Scrub Camp was sponsored by the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and held in Yankton at the Physician’s Pavilion.

The American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is honoring Robert Kisely as the October Veteran of the Month. Robert was drafted into the army in 1960 at the age of 21.

10 Years Ago - 2014 Stephanie ( Nedved) Carlson and Adam Carlson of Rockford, IL were united in marriage. The Wagner Community School Class of 1974 held a reunion. Myles Joshua was born to Mike and Jill Lindstrom.

After dedicating 36 years of service to the Avon Ambulance, Carol Tolsma decided it was time to permanently park the stretcher in the ambulance. Carol was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) during her years of volunteering for the Avon Ambulance.

Dwaine Davis is being honored as Avon’s October Veteran of the Month. Davis was a member of the United States Air Force beginning in April of 1984 for three years, 10 months and 11 days. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in March of 1988.

10 Years Ago – 2014 Fall harvest was in full swing. Beans for the most part were being combined while corn was just starting. The Avon Pirate Football Cheerleaders had a chilly night of cheering as with the wind, temperatures were 30 degrees.

The library was pleasantly surprised by a phone call from the Platte Library, that we would be a recipient from a book drive sponsored by a young man from Platte for his Senior project.

10 Years Ago – 2014 Lake Andes received a Wellmark Grant for $7,500. Andes Central JAG students distributed TOMS shoes to K-12 students and staff. Andes Central appreciated and recognized their food service workers.
