10 Years Ago – 2014

Lake Andes received a Wellmark Grant for $7,500.

Andes Central JAG students distributed TOMS shoes to K-12 students and staff.

Andes Central appreciated and recognized their food service workers. The ladies included were Pat Shinkle, Tricia Wells, Jeanice Anderson, Linda Humpal and Bonnie Simmermon.

Andes Central also appreciated and recognized their bus drivers Larry Hudson, Mary Soulekand Moe Parker.

Sherri Fuchs was running for re-election for the Charles-Mix County Auditor position.

Cross Country runner, Matthew Bryant, had his personal best 5K at the Parkston meet.

20 Years Ago – 2004

The National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences recognized Karen Petrik as a 2004 Continued Excellence Award Winner.

Richard Dvorak was elected director for Charles-Mix Electric and retiring director is Charles Thaler.

Tom and Margaret Thomson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

The Lake Andes Lion Club held a Peace Poster Contest with the theme “Give Peace A Chance”. The winners were Mike Janish, Grant Petrik and Lauren Bryant.

40 Years Ago – 1984

The Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge announced that a boat ramp and parking facilities were now available for use by the public. The area was located at the east end and south of the south dike of Lake Andes.

50 Years Ago – 1974

Kay Ann Svatos and Dennis Hubers exchanged vows on October 19th.

The 7th and 8th grade football team closed its season with a convincing 34-14 win against Platte. Andes Central was led by the powerful running of Randy Dvorak and Rick Golus. Brian Artz, Rod Bergin, Dean Svatos, Lyle Dion, Larry Laska, Ron Smith and Willard Bruguier opened big holes for the Eagle backs.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bures of Ravinia were the parents of a baby girl born on October 21st.

70 Years Ago – 1954

The Climax of the Homecoming program came with the crowning of the King and Queen of Lakota Days. Dennis Curtain and Vivian Pick, followed by the pep rally and snake dance through Main Street.

Maurine Dufrain and George Cahoy exchanged vows.

Lillie May Laska and Lavern Hruska were wed on October 20th.

80 Years Ago – 1944

JV Keller purchased the city building next to the Buche store where he will open a café.

90 Years Ago – 1934

The homecoming parade was led by the Queen, Dorothy Logue, and her attendants Charlene Cooper, Eleanor Acers and Helen Ishmael.
