JUNIOR HIGH BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM ATTENDS BON HOMME TOURNAMENT

Avon junior high boys basketball team placed 6th at the Bon Homme Tournament (sponsored by their Booster Club) in Tyndall on January 30. In the first game of the tournament, the boys played a very talented team from Hanson and were defeated by a score of 40-11.

American Legion says that Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high school students. It is a participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government.

SPOTLIGHT SHINES ON SENIOR ASHTON FRANK

Senior Ashton Theophiel Frank, son of Stacy and Christi Frank and brother of Weston, Jasmin, and Allison, was born on May 27, 2002. Because Ashton likes to be active, PE is his favorite class. Ashton also enjoys playing sports, farming, and trapping in his spare time.

On January 26, preschool through sixth grade classes had an event called the Winter Olympics. The elementary students had teams with a teacher. There were two events, and each team got to go to each event.

FIVE ACTORS EARN STATE SUPERIORS FOR ONE ACT PLAY

On February 6, our One Act Play performed Tracks at the State One Act Play competition at Brookings. They performed at 4:45 p.m. at SDSU Oscar Larson Performing Arts Center. They got their results from State on February 9.

February 5, the high school staff gave the students a little break from school work to have some fun at the Jr./Sr. High Winter Olympics. There were a total of five different events: curling, speed skating, biathlon, bobsledding, and slalom.

A Look Back at Avon

2011 - 10 Years Ago Frigid temperatures isn't stopping many die-hard fisherman in the area. Temperatures got into the minus teens and 20's overnight, with windchill's minus 30's and 40's. Today's high in Avon was four degrees but forecasts show we should hit the 40's by the weekend.
