SENIORS TAKE GOLD AT WINTER OLYMPICS
February 5, the high school staff gave the students a little break from school work to have some fun at the Jr./Sr. High Winter Olympics.
There were a total of five different events: curling, speed skating, biathlon, bobsledding, and slalom. The goal for curling was to push a teammate on a scooter to get as close to the middle zone as possible. You could earn one to five points per push. For speed skating, one member from each team would line up and race around the track with felt blocks under their feet. Whichever class reached the finish line first gets the points. The goal for the biathlon was for one member from each team to push themselves on a scooter all the way to the end of the gym to then pick up a ball and throw it at a bowling pin. If you hit it, you would get a point. In bobsledding, you and a partner get on a double-scooter and push yourselves down the court, around a cone and back. Whichever team had the fastest time got the higher points. The goal in Slalom was to race in between cones with felt blocks on your feet all the way up the court and back in relay style.
Winning in a dominant fashion was the seniors with 88 points. The juniors took second with 67 points. Sophomores in third with 55. Freshmen finished with 42. Seventh grade took fifth with 32. Taking sixth was eighth grade with 31 points.
This event started at 1:30 and ended at 3:00 for the students. The school day ended with build-your-own ice-cream sundaes.
