ANNUAL SPELLING BEE HELD AT A.C.E.

First through sixth grade students at Andes Central participated in the school's annual Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 11. The spelling bee consisted of two parts: a written test of 35 words and an oral contest. Medals were awarded to the first three places in each grade level.

Wagner Cub Scouts Pack 261 toured the National Guard Saturday, February 6. The boys saw the guns used by the guards, rode in a Hummer, ate some MREs, tried on gear and night vision equipment, and learned what the National Guards is and what they do during guards weekends.

WFD honored Jim Bastemeyer and Dennis Payer for their combined 72 years of service to the Wagner Fire District. Both Jim and Dennis retired from the Wagner Fire District Board at the annual meeting.

Youth ages 5-19 that are interested in poultry and/or rabbits are invited to join Fur & Feather Classes at the 4-H Center in Tyndall! We plan to hold monthly classes to help 4-H youth with their small animal projects.

2001 - 20 YEARS AGO Voters came out in big numbers for the rescheduled election for the fate of Sunday alcohol sales. The big numbers sent the message that the majority of Avon residents do not want bars to be open on Sundays. Lucy and Ernie Hento celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
