WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CORONAVIRUS TESTING

Testing! Testing! Testing! That’s what the experts say is necessary to move the country back to normalcy. Almost daily, local TV stations in New York City where I live run public service announcements urging viewers to get a test for COVID-19.

THE DUTY OF LEADERS

Today, the rule of law is under attack in America. In cities across the country, violent mobs are running rampant. They’re looting, rioting, and destroying property, businesses, and – in some cases – people’s dreams. Murder rates are up by double digits in 13 of our nation’s 15 largest cities.

LOCAL COWGIRLS COMPETE AT JIMMI ROSE MEMORIAL

The annual Jimmi Rose Memorial Barrel Race was held in Huron on August 22. Local cowgirls attending were Joni, Dusti and Aspen Laska. Along with added jackpot money, average prizes were awarded on times accumulated from two separate runs for the day.

WAGNER CANCER WALK SEPT. 6

The 13th annual Wagner Cancer Walk is a little later this year and changes have been made to some of the activities, but we hope everyone will be able to participate in the activities that are being held.

Library news

The Library Board of Directors will meet on Tuesday, September 8 at 6:30 at the Library. It is open to the public. If you plan to attend, please wear a mask.

PHYLLIS POWERS

Funeral services for Phyllis Powers, 72, of Wagner were Friday, August 28 at the National Guard Armory in Wagner, with Rev. Jerry Zephier officiating. Burial was in the Hill Church Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Dante. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner was in charge of arrangements.

BACK TO SCHOOL FOR ANDES CENTRAL STUDENTS

The 2020-21 school year began at Andes Central School on Thursday, August 27th following a one week delay. The hallways and lunch room quickly filled with students and staff ready to start their day and get their class schedules and locker assignments . Photos by Justus Winter .

CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS COMPETE AT FIRST MEET

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder Cross Country team competed in their first meet of the 2020 season on Saturday, August 29 at the Mitchell Invitational Meet.
