Recently, the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) released its health care facility recommendations to the Asset and Infrastructure Review (AIR) Commission. These proposals are the first step in a multi-year process.

President Bryan Slaba welcomed members to their March 23rd meeting in the “Rotary Building”. Pastor Bill Heermann offered up thanksgiving for the nourishing meal from Valley Pump and asked that the food empower us to go forth into our community to help others.

A huge congratulations goes out to all those on the Bon Homme Youth Wrestling team that qualified for the State Tournament in Sioux Falls on March 25th - 27th and to those that didn't qualify on a great season. Among the 46 qualifiers of this group, 11 of them are from Avon.

A dear old friend, Frank Kurtenbach, and Tom Hoffman, both of Brookings, along with myself, traveled down to Tulsa, OK to follow the SDSU Jack Rabbit wrestling squad in the Big XII Conference Wrestling Tournament on March 5th and 6th. Our SDSU grapplers are developing into a Division One powerhouse.

The Lake Andes Volunteer Fire Department received a $5,000 grant recently from South Dakota Salutes; this gift was enhanced by gifts from the City of Pickstown, Andes State Bank, Nancy Gall, Ron and Stephanie Koupal, Juffer Inc., and Jeff Scherschligt, increasing the total grant to $9,900.

Avon High School's Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA) chapter traveled to USD on March 3. The chapter explored the campus, learned about the different occupations in the medical field, and toured the cadaver lab.

Avon’s US Government class is involved in a mock presidential election. According to government teacher Kris Cahoy, this is an opportunity for the senior class to run a campaign and organize their stances on issues in order to create a media promotion for their candidates.
