HOSA MEMBERS TOUR USD MEDICAL FACILITIES
Avon High School's Health Occupation Student Association (HOSA) chapter traveled to USD on March 3. The chapter explored the campus, learned about the different occupations in the medical field, and toured the cadaver lab.
In the nursing program, the students got to check out the robotic mannequins that simulate real people for medical practice purposes. The mannequin can blink, produce a pulse, speak its symptoms, and show different breathing patterns.
The students played a Kahoot game to learn more about the PT, OT, and PA fields.
To end the day, the students toured USD’s cadaver lab. The tour guide was a medical student who spends a lot of time in the lab. The students learned how complex the human body is, and they got to hold different organs and see what each looks like. They also saw the pathology of unhealthy organs and what caused them to look the way they did.
The chapter plans to take another trip to the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo at the end of April and learn about Veterinary Science.
Those who attended were Makayla Kopp (12), Kimmy Tolsma (11), Gracie Small (11), Courtney Sees (10), McKenna Kocmich (10), Landon Thury (10), Caleb Wallinga (10), and Ashley Tolsma (9).
