A huge congratulations goes out to all those on the Bon Homme Youth Wrestling team that qualified for the State Tournament in Sioux Falls on March 25th - 27th and to those that didn't qualify on a great season. Among the 46 qualifiers of this group, 11 of them are from Avon. Those of which include: Tyler Tjeerdsma, Alshamon Gunter, Weston Bierema, Thayne Tjeerdsma, Raegan Brandt, Sydney Johnson, Tucker Tjeerdsma, Colt Wolf, Remington VanDuysen and Cowan Wolf. The coaches from this thriving program had these great comments to say in regards to this amazing season as well as last years.

"The Bon Homme Youth Wrestling program has been gaining momentum in the past couple of years showing dedication towards a craft that not only builds character and drive, but also a sense of family. This dedication shows up during the summer with camps and tournaments all the way through the regular season in part to the time and knowledge the coaches put into each wrestler.

The group is comprised of approximately 90 youth from Avon, Springfield, Tabor and Tyndall with 46 earning a spot at the state tournament in Sioux Falls this weekend. BHYW has the second most participants trailing only behind Pierre with 49!

The 2021 youth wrestling season wrapped with an impressive showing at the state tournament in Rapid City. Bon Homme Youth Wrestling started the season with 56 wrestlers and sent 34 to state.

• Out of 56 wrestlers, 34 earned a spot at state

• Of these 34, 24 worked towards medal rounds; 9 wrestling for 1st or 2nd

• Brought home:

-Six champions

-Three 2nd place finishers

-Three 3rd place finishers

-Three 4th place finishers

-Three 5th place finishers

-Three 6th place finishers

-Two 7th place finishers

-One 8th place finisher

• Scoring 55 falls beaten only by Pierre (58), West Central (59) and Harrisburg (63)

• Placing sixth overall out of 106 teams

A shoutout to the coaches, Jayson Branaugh, John Cuka, Ben Hellmann, Jeremiah Horst, Mark Maggs and Nick Wolf, for every thing they do towards building this program! As well as a deep gratitude to each and every one of the families involved…the program is only as great as the people involved and we have something pretty incredible!"
