10 Years Ago – 2014
Santa visited Avon during the Avon Chamber of Commerce’s Parade of Lights. Santa rode through the parade on the Avon Volunteer Fire Department’s truck. Alderman Don Kocmich resigned from the Avon City Council.
Andes Central students participated in the Voice of Democracy by writing an essay on a patriotic theme and expressing what democracy means to them. The local VFW District 7 Post completed their judging of the essays.
Wagner held its annual Community Thanksgiving at the Wagner Community School cafeteria this past Thursday, November 28th. The meal was cooked at Boom’s, which owner Nick Dion generously supplied for the event.
On November 27th, 2024, the beautiful fall weather took a turn towards winter. The Wagner Rotary convened with a few absences as the fire siren blew about 11:30 and there were other absences as well. It turned out to be a relaxing meeting as we cruised right through the agenda.
At the November 21st meetings of both the Wagner American Legion Greer Post #11 and the Wagner American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 years of continuous membership milestones were awarded.
Wagner Cancer Walk and Rummage President, Arlis Kafka, was presented with an $800 donation from the Wagner American Legion Auxiliary President, Alyssa Mathis.
American Legion Greer Post #11 held its monthly meeting on November 21, with 37 members in attendance. Chaplain Don Kotab gave the invocation which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. The Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion was recited by all members.

Wagner Community School Oral Interpers that advanced to the state competition included Hailey Hilzendiger, Drue Soukup, Tavia Podhrasky, Nathan Kucera, Krista Dvorak, Hannah Fleming and Chloe Noteboom.
The Avon Chamber of Commerce will be holding its annual Kickoff to Christmas event on Saturday, November 30th. The day’s events begin with a Frozen Foot 5K. Participants are asked to sign up and pay the entrance fee of $20 (which gets you a t-shirt and treats) at 12:30 p.m.

Newly purchased Christmas lights by the Chamber of Commerce were put up on main street, just in time for the annual Parade of Lights. Amanda Reiff was named to the Great Plains All Conference Volleyball team; Randi Hento received Honorable Mention.
