10 Years Ago – 2014

Wagner Community School Oral Interpers that advanced to the state competition included Hailey Hilzendiger, Drue Soukup, Tavia Podhrasky, Nathan Kucera, Krista Dvorak, Hannah Fleming and Chloe Noteboom.

Trevor Lensing, Jacob Kvigne and Andrew Soukup were named to the SESD All-Conference football team.

Volleyball players that were named to the LMVC All Conference team were Brooklyn Tolliver, Emily Brunsing, Krista Dvorak and Ali Kuca. Rachel Dion and Sierra Juffer received honorable mention.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Tanner Kotab proudly placed a yellow ribbon on the yellow ribbon tree at Jim and Julie Jaeger residence in honor of his dad, Miko, and all soldiers serving our country.

Max and Lisa Anderson announced the birth of their son, Michael Max.

Harriet Gruenewald, Wagner Community Memorial Hospital Materials Manager, was presented with the South Dakota Central Service Society Member of the Year Award.

Arnold and Norma Horner received the Hometown Hero Award from Modern Woodmen.

Floral Impressions celebrated their 15th annual Christmas Open House.

Buche Foods and the Gus Stop’s Yellow Ribbon promotion raised $647 for the 153rd Support Group. The money was split equally between the Winner and Wagner units.

Bridget Fousek and Kristi Soukup were named Academic All-State for volleyball.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Wagner High School Quiz Bowl team won first place over ten teams; members were Chessa Bucholz, Adam Wiechmann, Nate Vetter and Donnelle Wiechmann.

Wagner wrestlers took first place in the Kimball tourney. Jeff Cuka won the Pinner’s Trophy.

45 Years Ago – 1979

Phyllis Ober was named Teacher of the Year.

Robin Slama and Mark Cuka announced their engagement.

Pct. Michael R. Novak was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO.

Dorothy and Otto Fousek celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Robert C. Anderson, Jerry Johnson, Richard J. Honomichl and Victor L. Schoepf, members of the local National Guard Unit were promoted to Private First Class.

A farewell square dance was held in honor of George and Kay Stumpf.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Paul Wiechmann and a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Bartunek.

Patricia and Rita Cihak held a 25th wedding anniversary party for their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Cihak.

Airman First Class Lyle Koupal left for Washington where he would be discharged from the Air Force.

92 Years Ago – 1932

Due to adverse business conditions, the White Eagle Oil Station on north Main Street closed. The station opened last spring under the supervision of A.T. Forgey.

The stock of L.J. Sear’s Variety Store was sold at auction to Fred Brewster of Spirit Lake, Iowa, who plans on opening a variety store.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Huron celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sanders.
