The Avon Chamber of Commerce will be holding its annual Kickoff to Christmas event on Saturday, November 30th. The day’s events begin with a Frozen Foot 5K. Participants are asked to sign up and pay the entrance fee of $20 (which gets you a t-shirt and treats) at 12:30 p.m. that day in front of Jurrens Electronics. The race will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Jurrens Electronics being the starting point of the race. Following the Frozen Foot race, there will be the reading of a Christmas book and pictures with Santa at the Avon Fire Hall from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. The Avon Fire Hall will then be transformed into a space for Christmas Bingo starting at 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Play your afternoon away with a one-time fee of $10 for two bingo cards. The Avon Chamber of Commerce will be sponsoring some fantastic prizes for the Bingo winners as well as a final Blackout Bingo game worth $250. O Daddy BBQ will be on site during bingo for anyone who gets hungry while playing. There will also be chili available from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Tolsma’s Cove. At 6 p.m. will be the highly anticipated Parade of Lights down Avon’s main street. Parade entries will line up on the south end of main street beginning at 5:15 p.m. There will be a $300 chamber bucks drawing prior to the start of the parade. This year’s parade will feature four categories with first, second and third place prizes awarded in each category. The four categories are manual (walking, bikes, etc.); small-powered (lawn mowers, ATVs, scooters, etc.); pickup truck (alone or pulling a flatbed); with the final category being large (full size tractor, trailer, truck, etc.). First place will receive $75; second place will receive $50; and third place will receive $25, all awarded in chamber bucks. All entries that do not place will receive a $10 prize. Karaoke is the final event of the evening and is being sponsored by the Avon Fire Department at the Fire Hall from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. Parade floats do not have to be anything fancy, a string or two of lights will do on whatever mode of transportation you choose. The Avon Chamber of Commerce would really like to continue the annual Parade of Lights, but more floats are needed to keep this tradition going. Hope to see you there!
