MITCHELL, S.D. – Dakota Wesleyan University recently released its fall 2025 dean’s list which includes 19 graduate students and 445 undergraduate students. To qualify for the undergraduate dean’s list, a student must have a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 on a four-point scale.

Bon Homme Chapter of the Izaak Walton League held its annual membership meeting at the Veterans Building in Tyndall. Kelly Kistner, President of the SD Division of the IWLA, gave the local members an update on the projects they have planned for 2026.

A total of 395 students at Mitchell Technical College have been placed on the Fall Semester 2025 President’s List, according to MTC President Theresa Kriese. To be named to the list, students must earn a term GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.

70th Anniversary Jule Waterman and Lucille Van Gerpen were married on December 28, 1955 at First Baptist Church, Avon, on a cold blustery day. Seventy years later they celebrated their anniversary with their four children, 12 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and spouses.

10 Years Ago - 2016 Shirley Yonkers was honored on her 80th birthday with a family dinner and Open House. Avon Pirates fell to Andes Central/Dakota Christian 48- 71. Dylan Raysby led Avon with 14 points. The Lady Pirates fell to Wagner Raiders this week. Lauren Sees led with 16 points.

10 Years Ago - 2016 Temperatures dropped well below zero and wind chills were in the minus 20's and 30's this past Sunday. Shirley Yonkers is celebrating her 80th birthday. Avon Fire Department hosted a certification course for members of the Avon and Wagner Fire Departments.

Greer Unit #11 American Legion Auxiliary held their monthly meeting on January 15 at the Post Home with 11 members present and Alyssa Mathis by zoom. The meeting was called to order by President Alyssa Mathis. Chaplain Margie Stone read the opening prayer.

Wednesday, January 14, President Jamie Soukup arrived at the Rotary building with the luncheon from Valley Pump and Rotarians got right to work eating a meal of salad, soup, and roast beef.

50th Anniversary Tony and Joan (Lukkes) Czmowki will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on January 10. In honor of this golden anniversary, the family is hosting a card shower. Cards and well wishes may be sent to 46 W Lakeshore Dr. Waubay, SD 57273.

10 Years Ago - 2016 Temperatures took a drop to just above zero over the weekend. THE JOLLY ROGER—Ali Sees was chosen as the Junior High Student of the Month for December while Bethany Wynia was chosen for the High School Student of the Month.
