75TH ANNIVERSARY: An Izaak Walton League of America began in October of 1925 in Bon Homme County as a Springfield Chapter chartering 21 members. That chapter combined their membership with a newly formed Bon Homme County Chapter Izaak Walton League.

Feeding South Dakota food distribution will be held Friday, Feb. 23 at the Scotland Community Church at 8:45 a.m.; the Tyndall Fire Hall at 10:30 a.m. and at the Avon Fire Hall at 12 noon. PLEASE NOTE: Proxy pickup (picking up food for someone unable to attend) is allowed with a completed form.

10 Years Ago – 2014 Jeff Wepking , Avon Industrial Technical Instructor was honored by the S.D. Technology Education Association for his 37 years of teaching. Sammi Brodeen played Carrie Ingalls Swanzey, sister of Laura Ingalls Wilder in the Wax Museum this past week during the science fair.

World Day of Prayer is an international, inter-church organization led by women which enables us to hear the thoughts of those women from all parts of the world: their hopes, concerns and prayers.

The Tri-County Right to Life is sponsoring an event for area youth groups. Rachel Jones, the director of Zoe Care Pregnancy Center, Yankton, will be speaking at the Dakota Christian School February 28 at 7:00 p.m. Dakota Christian School is located on Highway 44, 9 miles east of Platte.

Part of the Open House celebration at our new location was the sign up for “1000 Books Before Kindergarten “but the library will take sign ups anytime. This may sound like a lot of books but if you read 1 book each day that is 365 books in a year.

10 Years Ago – 2014 The Two Wheel Wonders were 2014 champions of The Dakota Senior Meals Wheelchair Basketball Tournament defeating the Hot Wheels 20-14. Corn was $3.67; beans $12.60; and winter wheat was $6.32.

The Andes Central FFA Chapter was first chartered in the 2019-2020 school year. The FFA Chapter currently has 17 members ranging from 7th grade to seniors.
