May Day (May 1st) came in cool and a little windy but was welcomed by the Wagner Rotary Club. Everyone needs some sunshine and warmer weather. President Brunsing called the members to order and read a prayer of thankfulness.

10 Years Ago – 2014 The fifth and sixth graders competed in an Arbor Day essay contest. Fifth grade winners were Michaela Kokes (1st), Hayden DeNoyer (2nd) and Natalie Zacharias (3rd). Sixth grade winners included Calie Frei (1st), Deisha Medicine Horn (2nd) and Corbin Johnson (3rd).

LIBRARY NEWS

May is designated at Older Americans Month and to commemorate this month and honor our older Americans the Library will be the site of a Pie & Games Social, sponsored by LSS Older Adult Resource Network. The social will be held on Tuesday, May 7th from 1-3 pm at the library location at 17 Park Ave.

10 Years Ago – 2014 JAG students attended the State Conference in Wagner with Sandra Wade winning a free trip to the national conference in Washington DC in the fall because she entered the JAG National Poster Competition.

LAKE ANDES SENIOR LIVING CENTER CROWN KING AND QUEEN

With it being prom season, the Lake Andes Senior Living Center crowned their 2024 King and Queen April 13th. The candidates for King were Melvin Chasing Hawk, Randall Spreckles and Paul Fast Horse. The candidates for Queen were Estelle Redlightning, Noreen Bridges and Vae VanDenHoek.

CITY OF WAGNER CELEBRATES THEIR EMPLOYEES

This year under the direction of our new Wagner City Finance Administrator, Debbie Houseman, there was a city employee appreciation luncheon held April 17th at Wagner City Hall.

THE LAKE ANDES NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE

Northeast rural Lake Andes is home to a unique landscape that is a mixture of grasslands and wetlands. This picturesque setting is home to the Lake Andes National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is comprised of 5,639 acres of refuge land and 4,700 acres of lake.

BASTEMEYER HONORED AS MAY VETERAN OF THE MONTH

The American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is honoring Jim Bastemeyer as this month’s Veteran of the Month. Bastemeyer is a Vietnam and Cold War Veteran. Jim served in the National Guard from 1971 until 1977. The war with Vietnam ended in 1973 and the Cold War ended in 1991.
