10 Years Ago – 2014 Ethel Reiff was named the “Fan of the Year” and Lyle and Korey Mensch received the Jolly Roger Dedication at the annual Avon Pirate Awards Program. Lincoln Murdoch, a triathlete champion and seven-time USA Triathlon All-American was the keynote speaker.

The American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is honoring Jim Bastemeyer as this month’s Veteran of the Month. Bastemeyer is a Vietnam and Cold War Veteran. Jim served in the National Guard from 1971 until 1977. The war with Vietnam ended in 1973 and the Cold War ended in 1991.

Children’s Book Week is May 6-12th. The Lake Andes Library works to celebrate children each day that we are open. You may ask how we do this and I will try to explain.

10 Years Ago – 2014 Dennisha Johanneson was honored as one of the best and brightest of the Class of 2014 by Governor Daugaard and ASBSD. Wagner Police Officer DesaRae Gravatt spoke to the Andes Central Critical issues class about her experience in her years in law enforcement.

The Wagner Speedway racing season was set to open last weekend Saturday, May 4th, but due to weather was postponed to this upcoming Saturday, May 11th. Wagner is very lucky to have two individuals willing to step up and make the 2024 Wagner Speedway racing season a reality.

Scavenger’s Journey organizers are excited for the 2024 event! Started in 2012, Scavenger’s Journey was modeled after similar successful events.

The Wagner Speedway held their annual awards banquet at the Fort Randall Casino this past Saturday, May 4th. They announced their point winners in six categories from the 2023 racing season. Congratulations on a great season and hoping to see all compete in the upcoming racing season.
