10 Years Ago – 2014

JAG students attended the State Conference in Wagner with Sandra Wade winning a free trip to the national conference in Washington DC in the fall because she entered the JAG National Poster Competition.

DiMera Dvorak and Johnathan Cooney completed the Teens and Teachers program through 4-H.

Ashley Kirkpatrick and Rebecca Lehman were chosen by the Miley Minahan American Legion Auxiliary of Lake Andes as their Girls’ State representatives.

JoMarie Garcia was featured in the senior spotlight.

Family Reading Night was held at the Andes Central Elementary with the theme being “Beach Night”.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Another soldier has fallen from the 153rd Engineer Battalion. April 24th, Staff Sgt. Cory W. Brooks, age 32 died in a non-combat related incident.

Agnes Engel was honored on her 90th birthday, April 24, at the Lake Andes Health Care Center by host of family and friends.

Boys and Girls Club Staters chosen at Andes Central were Casey Gau, Katie Gall, and Logan Svatos.

Almon Adam is the new Trustee on the Pickstown City Board.

USDA Rural Development presented Native American Set Aside Funds in the amount of $700,000 to the Yankton Sioux Tribe to repair or replace lift station equipment at four separate sites.

30 Years Ago – 1994

“Hooked on Fish Days” was the Parade Theme chosen. Keith and Julie Stirling were chairmen with Rod and Ruth Bergin serving as co-chairmen.

40 Years Ago – 1984

Tillie Parker was recognized by the LA Little Angels for her donated time.

Diane Whale, Chairperson of the “Young People Prints”, presented an Appreciation Plaque to Ray Westendorf, Sheriff, on behalf of the Law Enforcement Center of Charles-Mix County.

Joni Lynn was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dean Kniffen.

60 Years Ago – 1964

The Sportsman Café opened for business under the ownership of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jones.

Tammie Jo was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Odegard.

Work began removing roads from the Ft. Randall Recreation, Inc. golf course area.

The Charles Mix Post and Pole Co. plans to start its operation.

Kathleen, Wanda, Judy and Karen, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Raabe won first place in their division at the annual Amateur Contest at Minot, NE. They also won a trophy for first place winner of the entire contest.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Ethel LaGrande and Joan Albright were named valedictorian and salutatorian of the senior class.

Joe Carter and Bryan Taylor purchase the beer parlor from John Carda.

Work has begun on the oiling of the highway between Lake Andes and the round corner south of Geddes.

A new business known as Herold Implement Co. Inc. welcomed to Lake Andes. They have been appointed A.C. authorized dealers for Lake Andes and vicinity by Allis-Chalmers.

A Panoramic wide curved screen which is the latest style has been installed in the Mix. Theatre.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Bures.

Snow was falling and wind was blowing last Saturday as the kids were delivering may baskets.

Vilas Taylor purchased a beauty shop from Iona Sorenson. 90 Years Ago – 1934

A record for heat in the month of May was established in this part of the world Sunday and Monday, the thermometer hitting near the hundred mark.

100 Years Ago – 1924

Jens Sorenson has accepted a position in the filling station of the Lake Andes Motor and Securities Co.
