10 Years Ago – 2014

The fifth and sixth graders competed in an Arbor Day essay contest. Fifth grade winners were Michaela Kokes (1st), Hayden DeNoyer (2nd) and Natalie Zacharias (3rd). Sixth grade winners included Calie Frei (1st), Deisha Medicine Horn (2nd) and Corbin Johnson (3rd).

Jenny Barnett, Mackenzie Roberts and Riley Roberts all competed at the Region V piano contest. Jenny received a Superior, Mackenzie received a Superior Plus and Riley also received a Superior Plus.

Ali Kuca received an award for being named to the Class A 3rd team All State Girls’ Basketball team.

St. John the Baptist Church had a First Holy Communion Class. Members of the class were Raelynn Kuhlman, McKenzie Fuchs, Shona Kocer, Jhett Breen, Blaine Anderson, Jake Anderson and Jace Kuhlman. Senior Class members of 2014 were Dylan Brunsing, David Kocer, Megan Kocer, Michaela Novak and Bobbi Jo Soukup.

20 Years Ago – 2004

Kiara Kynn Ross was born April 22 to parents Jessica and Shawna Ross.

Shawn and Donna announce the birth of their daughter Sheridan Louise, April 6th.

Prayers were answered when a 6-pound 9-ounce son was born to Mike and Jenny Voigt. They named him Michael William.

Wagner Good Samaritan Center celebrated their 40th anniversary.

30 Years Ago – 1994

An open house was held for Kocer Kountry Krafts for Pam Donelan, author of the book of poetry entitled “In His Strength”.

Wagner Building and Supply celebrated their 30th anniversary.

44 Wagner High School band students went on a trip to Branson, MO.

Webelo Scouts graduating to Boy Scouts were Matt Soukup, James Zolnowsky, Jake Teroening and Jason Von Eschen.

45 Years Ago – 1979

Dr. David Isebrands set May 14 as the date to open his dental office in Wagner.

Tom Stone, Dean of the University of South Dakota, was the Loyalty Day Speaker at the VFW in Wagner.

60 Years Ago – 1964

Captain Charles Broz received one of the Air Force’s Top Safety Awards at the Pentagon ceremony. Captain Broz was flying at 30,000 feet in bad weather when an explosion occurred. Despite a broken windshield, frigid air and wind blast, loss of communications and violent vibrations for 45 minutes, Captain Broz piloted the plan to a successful landing.

70 Years Ago – 1954

Specials at G.F. Buche: jello, five cents a package; lettuce, ten cents a stalk; sugar, ten pounds, 89 cents.

Jimmy and Johnny Haar celebrated their birthdays.

A May snowstorm damaged fruit trees and some crops. Two inches of moisture was received.

92 Years Ago – 1932

Pupils participating in Mrs. J.G. Barton’s piano class were Elgin Scobell, Anthony Skorpik, Warren Pinard, Justine Kalda, Bette Fathke, Calrice Evers, Helen Knights and Marjorie Hansen.

Marie Cherontik and Paul Merkwan exchanged vows.

Permanent waves were $3.50 at Flynn Beauty Shop.
