PODZIMEK EARNS A GOLD KEY WRITING AWARD

Wagner High School senior Faithleigh Podzimek has been awarded a Gold Key for the South Dakota Region of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, which is the highest regional honor. Podzimek is one of 27 students to earn a Gold Key Regional Award out of several hundred entries.

If you have a desire to put a lunker walleye on the wall, and you don’t want to drive all the way to Ohio’s Lake Erie for a hopefully “sure thing,” you might consider a spring trip to Green Bay, WI. While we South Dakotans enjoy great walleye fishing, catching a big guy has become increasingly difficult as Oahe isn’t what it was years ago. I have long been an advocate of shutting down the walleye season during the spring spawn in March and April, at least in our Missouri River system, and what Wisconsin does is worth a hard look. According to Map Quest, Green Bay is 567 miles or an 8 hour 25 minute drive from Mitchell.

BIEREMA AND TJEERDSMA WRESTLE AT REGION TOURNEY: BIEREMA ADVANCES TO STATE

The Regional Wrestling Tournament was held Saturday in Wagner. Two members of the Bon Homme/ Scotland/Avon wrestling team participated representing Avon, including Tyler Tjeerdsma in the 113 pound class and Brady Bierema in the 126 pound class.
