By: Kimberly Tolsma “Aloha!” This traditional Hawaiian greeting seems very appropriate. In six weeks, June 14-20, juniors Kimmy Tolsma and Sarah Swier will make the trek to Honolulu, Hawaii for a week-long choir trip.

As the school year comes to an end, the cheer team has been looking forward to next year's season by preparing for cheer tryouts. Practices were held May 2, 4, 9, and tryouts will be held May 12. Each cheerleader is required to fill out an information sheet and get a teacher recommendation.

May 6 and 7 was the 97th Annual Howard Wood Relays. Avon’s track team had eight events and/ or individuals competing in the annual meet. In order to get into Howard Wood, teams are selected by their times or distances. For relays, they take three heats in each class.

Avon musicians performed at their last concert of the year on April 28. The choir and band students performed songs that are well-known. At the Pops Concert some of the choir students sang solos, duets, or ensembles.

As the year comes to a close, we seniors are experiencing our final “lasts.” On May 5 at 6:30 p.m., we will attend our last ever Awards Banquet as an AHS student. On May 6-7 most of the senior track athletes will be in Sioux Falls for track meets at O’Gorman and the Howard Wood Relays.
