May 6 and 7 was the 97th Annual Howard Wood Relays. Avon’s track team had eight events and/ or individuals competing in the annual meet. In order to get into Howard Wood, teams are selected by their times or distances. For relays, they take three heats in each class. All four of the Lady Pirate girl’s relays made it. For throwers and jumpers, they take the top 48 competitors in all the classes combined. On Friday, the 4x200 girls ran along with the boys 4x800 relay. Lila Vanderlei threw the shot put and Courtney Sees long jumped. On Saturday the girls 4x100, 4x400 and medley relay ran. Vanderlei threw the discus.

Coach Brad Poppe said, “I am very proud of the kid’s hard work. Their hard work has paid off, because not everyone gets to compete at the Howard Wood Relays.”
