From the Files of the Wagner Post 10 YEARS AGO 2015 The 5th Annual South Dakota Birding Festival at Fort Randall hosted Birding Magazine Editor Ted Floyd.

Hours for the Easter Holiday are as follows: Library will be closed Friday, April 18th. Library will be taking part in the Easter Carnival that will take place in the Back Gym at 400 School Street. Hours for the Carnival are 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Carter Smejkal One of this week’s featured WCS seniors is Carter Smejkal. Carter is the son of Shawn and Donna Smejkal.

The mayoral election was held for the City of Wagner on April 8 where Alyssa Mathis emerged victorious over Tammy Thornton, securing 83 votes to Thornton’s 66. The election saw a total of 149 votes cast, reflecting a significant turnout for the city.

At the April 8 city council meeting, one of the first topics to come before the council was the list of notices involving property maintenance concerns and actions. The city’s code enforcer, Joel Johnson, presented the board with an updated list of properties that were not in compliance.

The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) announced that the City of Wagner public water system and the system's certified operators have been awarded a Drinking Water Certificate of Achievement Award.

Wagner Rotary Club began their April 9, 2025, meeting with a ring of the bell and a recitation of our special Rotary Prayer. Song leader Gerrit Juffer picked an “oldie” for us to sing: “Old McDonalds Farm.” We were instructed to use chickens, ducks, and moo moos for the animals.

The Wagner American Legion Auxiliary Greer Unit #11 is proud to honor Tom Soukup as April’s Veteran of the Month. Soukup graduated from Marty High School in the spring of 1959 at 17 years of age.
