2015

The 5th Annual South Dakota Birding Festival at Fort Randall hosted Birding Magazine Editor Ted Floyd.

The South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources announced that the Randall Community Water District public water system was awarded a Secretary’s Award for Drinking Water Excellence.

20 YEARS AGO

2005

Mary Ann Stastny received a plaque for her 37 years of volunteering to the residents at Wagner Good Samaritan center. Irene Cimpl was recognized as the volunteer of the year award for her dedication and tie donated to the residents. Matthew and Mieka Slaba of Wagner are pleased to announce the birth of their son Theodore Urban Slaba.

Norm Cihak is the new apartment manager of Community Villa and Westside Estates apartments in Wagner.

30 YEARS AGO

1995

A dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony was held for the new run way at the Wagner Airport.

Marion Schuldt and Glen Schoepf were chosen 1995 citizens of the Year.

Angela Ulmer and Chet Eitemiller announced their engagement.

A daughter was born to Lynn and Kim Soukup and a daughter was born to Tim and Denise Weber.

45 YEARS AGO

1980

The Jaycees and Jaycettes chose Dr. R. W. Honke as Wagner Citizen of the year.

Richard Bures joined Aberdeen Production Credit Association as loan officer.

Luckie Drapeau was named Chief of Police at Hot Springs. Susan Kaberna was the 1980 Arbor Day Essay winner.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Fischer.

70 YEARS AGO

1955

The Rev. Ronald Zehender, pastor of St. John Lutheran Church, accepted a call to St. Pete’s Lutheran Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The new Tomahawk Speedway in south Wagner is nearing completion.

92 YEARS AGO

1933

Relatives and friends surprised Mr and Mrs. Lloyd Youngbluth with a miscellaneous shower of gifts.

Cream stations were paying 18 cents per pound for butter fat. Fred Baxa, Wagner, took part in the State College’s first all-college vaudeville show “Rabbit ‘Rarities.”

Twenty-six full blooded Sioux Indians, constituting the Canon Ball Drum and Bugles Corps Went to Washington for the march in the Inaugural parade held in March. They made the trip in a truck.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Corey moved into rooms over Sullivan Drug Store.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fechner.

Florence Bradley and Raymond Gale exchanged vows.
