20 Years Ago – 2004

Sheri Svatos, Lake Andes, will graduate magna cum laude at Dakota State University May 8th.

Marty students meet with US legislators on a trip to Washington, D.C.

The first annual Yankton Wellness Conference was held April 29-May 1st, in Wagner. It featured Olympic Gold Medalist and Grammy winner, “Brule”.

Mary Louise Wipf accepted a plaque on behalf of her late husband, Owen Ray Wipf, in appreciation for his many years of dedicated service to the Wagner- Lake Andes Ambulance Association.

30 Years Ago – 1994

Old Man Winter dumped seven inches of snow on Lake Andes, but the sun melted it quickly the next day.

40 Years Ago – 1974

Six Andes Central High School youth scored very high in the Aberdeen Relays. Three school records were broken in the relays and one was set in the 100-yard dash. Participating in the event were Bruce Kniffen, Doug Kniffen, Sam Holderby, Rod Payer, Todd Payer and Mike Rhoades.

Jean Barkley was named first place winner in the American Essay Contest sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Fort Randall-Castle Unit 282 of Pickstown, Lunette Adam placed second and Mary Lynn Kramer placed third.

Peggy Anderson and Jim Sip announced their engagement.

Debbie Larson and Jay Van-DerWerff announced a May 25 wedding.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Rudy Arpan.

60 Years Ago – 1964

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Dick Mead.

Lake Andes won the Fort Randall conference track meet which is the first ever according to school records. School records were broken by Dan Pipes, broad jump; Bob Lewis, pole vault; and Jim Haber, mile.

70 Years Ago – 1954

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Hoyle Evans.

Paul Kern has been named valedictorian of the 1954 graduating class of Lake Andes High School. Dennis Padrnos and Ronald LaValle tied for salutatorian. 90 Years Ago – 1934
