Each year Mrs. Loretta Knodel reads Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House series to the 3rd graders at Avon Elementary School. Five of the 9 books take place just a little over 2 hours away from Avon inDeSmet,SouthDakota.This summer Mrs. Knodel invited the 3rd and 4th graders along with their families to join her inDeSmet,SDtohelpbringthe series to life. Those gathering for the learning experience ranged in age from 5 months old to grandparents.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 16, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Lake Andes. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery in Pickstown, with military honors. Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 7 p.m. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

It is no secret that we LOVE this rodeo famously called the STAMPEDE in Burke, South Dakota! When you love what you do, well, it makes for FUN!! What great FUN we have had with all of you over the past 34 years at the legendary Burke Stampede Rodeo. In this, our 35th year, we are makin’ history. We have retired our old bucking chutes…they have served us well and have been loaded with many, many great broncs and bulls and the cowboys who tame em’! They represent 34 years of Stampede memories and Stampede fun! Recognizing that is was time to look toward the next 35 years of Stampede fun, our committee commissioned Macksteel out of Watertown, South Dakota to build (not 6) but 8 brand spankin’ new buckin’ chutes. These chutes are bigger, safer and just plain “Stampede fancy”! They complete Phase 1 of our big dreams for the Burke Stampede Rodeo Arena.
