On Wednesday, July 16, the VFW Post 7319 14U boys played host to Canova for one game. The boys played some pretty solid baseball and would prevail over the Gang by a score of 4-3.

12U BOYS PLACE 3RD AT VFW TOURNAMENT

Wagner’s 12u boys baseball team traveled to Groton, July 11-13 for the 12u Bravo Division of the VFW State Baseball Tournament. The boys went 2-2 in Pool Play, beating Hamlin/Lake Norden (9-2), and Salem (32-0). The boys lost two tight games versus Groton (4-6) and Parkston 2 (8-10). Wagner was the highest 2-2 team coming out of pool play, allowing the least runs over four games, and earned the 7th seed in the 8-team bracket, out of 15 teams competing.

18U SOFTBALL TEAM UNDEFEATED AT LEAGUE TOURNAMENT

Avon's 18U softball team competed in the Little Missouri Valley League Tournament Wednesday, July 9 in Plankinton. Avon came into the tournament with an undefeated record and the #1 seed. In the first round of the tournament Avon took on Menno. Mennogotontheboard in the top of the first with 3 runs. Avon was able to score in the 2nd and 3rd, but took the lead for good in the bottom of the 4th as Abby Gretschmann stole home. Leading hitter for the game was Pria Sesler with 2 hits including a double and 2 RBI. Other hitters included Lydia Yost, Kaeli Wallinga, Brielle Voigt, and Rowan Brandt all with 1 hit. Macy Voigt pitched for Avon, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits while walking 3 and striking out 5.
