A SUSPECT HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND FACES MULTIPLE CHARGES IN RELATION TO A HOMICIDE THAT OCCURRED LAST WEEK

A suspect has been arrested and faces multiple charges in relation to a homicide that occurred in Charles Mix County last week. The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation, Yankton Sioux Tribal Law Enforcement, and the Charles Mix County Sheriff’s Office all worked together to coordinate the apprehension of Mackenzie Antelope, 18 of Lake Andes, SD. Antelope has been charged with murder and manslaughter in the death of Quinlan Ream, 22 of Lake Andes, SD. Antelope has also been charged with aggravated assault against Dylan Oullette, 33 of Lake Andes, SD. This case is a prime example of Tribal, State, and County governments working together. Due to this collaborative effort law enforcement officers from multiple agencies were able to act swiftly in order to protect the public. Antelope is currently being held at the Charles Mix County jail on a $500,000.00 bond. He is scheduled for an initial appearance in court next week. Defendants are presumed innocent under the U.S. Constitution until proven guilty.

The Class B State Track Meet was held from Thursday, May 23rd through Saturday, May 25th in Sioux Falls at the Howard Wood Field.Thiswasthe119thyear that this annual 3-day event washeld.Seventeenathletes from the Avon School District qualified for the Class B State Track Meet. Of the seventeenthatqualified,one athlete brought home a state title. Courtney Sees for the third time won the Class B Long Jump State title.

SOUTHEAST ELITE STARS AND STRIPES TOURNAMENT

Game 1: The Elite started out fast scoring 8 runs in the first inning off of the Vermillion White. It was a walkfest with the Elite walking 8 times in the inning. Leah DeWald delivered one hit in the inning scoringthefinalrun.However, theElitecouldnotholdthelead and surrendered 8 runs to Vermillion inthetopofthesecond. A series of walks and errors doomed the Elite. The Elite thengaveup2morerunsinthe topofthe3rdtofallbehind10-8. WithtimerunningouttheElite battled back in their last at bat. Sidney Johnson walked and Harper Kracht followed with a base hit driving in Johnson. Kracht eventually scored on a series of passed balls. Emeryson Haenfer walked, stole second and then ultimately scored the winning run on a pass ball. Haenfler started on the mound and was relieved by Leah DeWald who picked up the win.
