Monday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. the music department hosted the Big and Little Dance in the Avon School’s main gym. The event piggybacks on the Prom using their decorations and theme to help make the evening more festive.

WWith boys basketball ending, coaches from each region nominate players for Little Missouri Valley Conference (LMVC), and All Conference. The Avon boys basketball team placed one athlete on LMVC and two athletes on the All Conference. Senior Ashton Frank received All Conference and LMVC and junior Eli Watchorn received honorable mention for All Conference.

Pierre, S.D.– The Stephanie Miller-Davis Library Summer Reading Grant Program has continued its third year supporting summer reading programs in small rural communities in partnership with the South Dakota Community Foundation (SDCF) and the South Dakota State Library (SDSL). The program has distributed $25,000 to libraries in rural communities across South Dakota.

This year’s honorary referees for the Avon Invitational Track Meet are Allen and Lori Cihak. Allen a 1982 graduate of Avon. Allen and Lori have three children graduates of Avon, Derek (2011), Mitchell Technical Institute (2013) and farms in the Avon area, Mallory (2014), Mt. Marty University (2018), teaches 3rd grade in the Yankton School District and is engaged to Justin Bochman and Jacob (2018) is a junior at SDSU studying Agronomy. Allen is employed with Williams Masonry as a Bricklayer. Lori is employed with Good Samaritan-Tyndall as Health Information Director, Medicare Coordinator, CNA. Lori has been on the Avon School Board for 11 years. Cihak’s have volunteered time and donated to the Avon Post Prom Committee, Booster Club, Avon Science Fair and After School Backpack program. Al and Lori continue to support the Pirate activities and enjoy donating back to the Avon School District and community.

James Richard Whitaker was born on May 10, 1967 in Omaha, Nebraska to Richard and Peggy Whitaker. He grew up in Omaha where he attended Cather Elementary School, Millard North Junior High School and graduated from Creighton Prep High School in 1985. Jim received an Associate Degree from Metro Tech. He was an exceptional athlete who excelled in multiple sports. Jim learned to hunt and fish at an early age and continued to engoy them all during his life.
