LASKA RECEIVES AWARDS FOR 2019 SEASON

Dusti Laska received awards this month for completing a successful 2019 barrel racing season. She competes in the National Barrel Horse Association barrel races that take place at various locations in this area of the state throughout the year. Points are kept during the year for this district/area.

CONGRESS LEAVES PROMISING HEALTH CARE COST REFORMS IN LIMBO

Health care as an issue landed with a thud in late December as members of Congress packed up and went home for the holidays. Two important pieces of legislation for patients didn’t make it to the finish line. Passage of either measure next year is a crapshoot since it’s an election year.

Sports fans present at the Wagner vs Parkston double-header basketball game on Thursday evening, January 17th were treated to some great entertainement as local youth displayed their dribbling and shooting skills. Our future basketball players are looking pretty good!

The WagnerCommunity Memorial Hospital-Avera sponsored a 10th annual 8th Grade Career Fair on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the Wagner National Guard Armory.

CONSERVATION RESERVE PROGRAM SIGNUP IS OPEN

USDA is opening signup for the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) on December 9, 2019. The deadline for agricultural producers to sign up for general CRP is February 28, 2020, while signup for continuous CRP is ongoing.

SD RIGHT TO LIFE EVENT

The South Dakota Right to Life will hold a Walk for Life beginning at 12:30 p.m., at the Capitol in Pierre on Sunday, January 26. This will be followed by the Hour of Reflection held at the Capitol Rotunda at 2:00 p.m. Speakers are Senator Mike Rounds and Dr. Pat Castle.

The Andes Central/Dakota Christian Thunder arrived at DSU-Madison to play Freeman on January 11 ready to play as they once again played a great game ending in overtime to take the win 31-25.

Rotary club met Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at noon for lunch with meeting to follow. We were served delicious ham, scalloped potatoes, beans, roll and chocolate dessert. The business meeting was “rung” into order by President Bill Frei.
