Visitation for Gregory Whiteley, of Avon, will be Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 2 to 3:30 PM at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Avon. Burial is in the Tyndall Cemetery. Peters Funeral Chapel in Avon is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Nelson, 72, of Lake Andes

Doris died Monday, April 15, 2024 at the Good Samaritan Society in Tyndall. Funeral services are 2:30 PM, Monday, April 22, 2024 at the United Church of Christ in Springfield. Burial is in the Springfield Cemetery. Visitation will be the hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON A FINAL BASKETBALL SEASON

The Avon girls’ and boys’ basketball 2023-2024 seasons came to an end without achieving their goals of making it to the state tournament. For the girls, their season ended during the second game of region play against Andes Central/Dakota Christian.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION RESULTS

Elections results for the Avon School District No. 4-1 held April 9th, 2024, were as follows: Craig Vanderlei 131 votes, Matthew Grant 71 votes, Annie Thury 152 votes, Bridgette Muller 172 votes and Joe Paulsen 29 votes.

YOUNG SHOOTERS COMPLETE HUNTSAFE COURSE

There were 29 young shooters from Tyndall, Tabor, Springfield, Scotland, Avon and Wagner area that completed the HuntSafe course recently. Two evenings of the course was in the classroom learning about firearms, ammunition and gun safety.

ANDES CENTRAL FFA STATE QUALIFIERS

The Andes Central FFA students traveled to Lennox this past week for their last Career Development Event (CDE) competition before the state competition.

STUDENTS MAKE DIORAMAS TO CELEBRATE LIBRARIES

In honor of National Library Week and School Library Month (April), elementary students at Andes Central School were invited to create dioramas in one of ten categories. They were on display in the library during National Library Week.
