AVON AMERICAN LEGION NAMES BOYS STATE REPRESENTATIVES

This is the 81st year that the South Dakota American Legion has been hosting Boys State. This year the state-wide event is being held on the campus of Northern State University in Aberdeen from May 27th through May 31st. There are expected to be up to 350 soon to be seniors attending the event.

SENIOR MUSIC TRIP

The Avon Senior Choir and Band Members enjoyed their trip to Minneapolis on Sunday, May 19th and Monday, May 20th. On Sunday they enjoyed time at the waterpark of their hotel, “The Great Wolf Lodge”. Then they all got dressed up and headed out to eat near the Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis.

“EARLY INTERVENTION”

It has been a few years since my children were babies! Having spent my youth as a babysitter and a career in pediatrics, I was pretty comfortable in watching the developmental of babies, toddlers and young children. ( Teenagers are another story for another day!!

ANDES CENTRAL SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES

This year’s Andes Central School Board election will be held June 4th. Anyone registered and wanting to vote should come to the Lake Andes Community Center at 207 Main Street and cast their votes between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

KOUPAL NAMED TO ELITE 8

Macy Koupal was named to the 2024 list of Elite Eight Female Athletes of the Year. This is the 21st year that KQRN and KORN radio stations have sponsored this award. Requirements to be named to this prestigious list include being a junior or senior, having a GPA of 3.

BREEN SELECTED FOR ALL-STAR GAME

Jhett Breen was selected to play in the SD high school football all-star game. Kickoff will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8 at Dykhouse Stadium at South Dakota State University. The game is free to attend.

BARNETT RECOGNIZED FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

The 34th annual Academic Excellence Recognition luncheon was held on Monday, April 29th in Pierre. This event highlights the academic achievements of the best and brightest 1% of students throughout South Dakota from the Class of 2024.

MILLS RETIRES FROM WCS

Sandy Mills has been a part of the Wagner Community School staff for the past 27 years, beginning her WCS career in 1997. Sandy has been a part of the food service team as a dishwasher and server. Sandy has decided that as the 2023-2024 school year comes to a close, so does her time at WCS.
