SENIOR MUSIC TRIP

By
Autumn Schultz
The Avon Senior Choir and Band Members enjoyed their trip to Minneapolis on Sunday, May 19th and Monday, May 20th. On Sunday they enjoyed time at the waterpark of their hotel, “The Great Wolf Lodge”. Then they all got dressed up and headed out to eat near the Orpheum Theater in downtown Minneapolis. It was difficult finding a restaurant that was open on a Sunday night and could seat 11 people! Next, “MJ the Musical” did not disappoint. The vocalists were outstanding, the lights and choreography were phenomenal, and everyone was thrilled with the performance. The students were especially grateful that they ended the show with the song “Thriller”. For most of these kids, it was their first experience in a theater of this caliber! We stayed after for some group pictures in front of the Orpheum, just in time to catch one of the actors leaving the place. We were excited to get to talk to him and get his autograph. He couldn’t believe we came from a town with a smaller population than the amount of people that are capable of sitting in the theater each night! On Monday, we headed to a coffee shop where 100% of the proceeds go to Veterans and their families. After playing cards and getting our daily dose of caffeine, we headed to the Minneapolis Sculpture Park for some great photo ops. We then hiked at Minnehaha Falls and some of the boys rented scooters to zoom around on. There were some gorgeous views and it was a great reminder to be still and enjoy what is right in front of us. We headed to the Mall of America for lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. We shopped a bit and then headed back home. As always, this annual trip would not be possible without the support of our community each year. Every time you attend our football tailgate supper, every Sweetheart Serenade you book, every donation you make, every cookie, lemonade, rootbeer float, and cake you buy after a concert helps us make this happen. It’s a fantastic way to reward these students for being well-rounded and contributing to the success of the Avon Music Department. We appreciate all your support and have thoroughly enjoyed these Seniors throughout their time at AHS. Have a great summer!
