Three years ago, Brandon Williams decided that he wanted to try to hunt for bobcats. What started out as trying to trap bobcats ended up leading Williams to become successful in hunting mountain lions.

Bob Burns joined the Swier Law Firm, Prof. LLC. A card shower was requested for the 80th birthday of Allen Vacknitz. Katrina Kazena was a new student at Avon High School joining the sophomore class. Sixty-one students, 7th-12th grade signed up to participate in archery.

Volunteering is a big part of life for most of us living in rural areas. A recent community survey by Dakota Resources and eight rural communities found that about 80% of people believe they need to get involved to help their community succeed.
I’ve now been Governor of South Dakota for about 2 weeks. We finally have bills reaching my desk. I just signed my first bill as Governor, Senate Bill 7, which bans Sanctuary Cities in South Dakota.
This bill is a strong piece of legislation.

Parents’ night was held, honoring seniors Brooke Deurmier, Rebecca Lehmann, Cybil Chytka, Tearanie Stotz, Jason Drapeaux, and Tyrone Flying Hawk.
After 74 years of service to the Wagner Community Memorial Hospital – Avera, the hospital auxiliary will be dissolving as of February 26th at their final meeting.
Mayor Thornton and City Administrator Houseman attended the recent Armory Board meeting. Total expenses for the armory this year were approximately $120,000 with electricity alone costing $37,000.
