Bob Burns joined the Swier Law Firm, Prof. LLC. A card shower was requested for the 80th birthday of Allen Vacknitz. Katrina Kazena was a new student at Avon High School joining the sophomore class. Sixty-one students, 7th-12th grade signed up to participate in archery. Girls’ basketball players of the week were Hanna Powers, Heidi Cap, Lauren Sees and Kacie Mudder. Pirate cheer camp was held at the end of January and had 30 students participate. The Outstanding Women Athlete Award was presented to Amanda Reiff by Matt Yost.

Temps were in the 40s all week and were expected to hit 55 degrees. To everyone’s relief, the Pirates cracked the win barrier Friday at Geddes winning 64-50. Jason Alberts scored 22 points. Funeral services for Sue Jayne Sternhagen were held at the First Presbyterian Church. Senior Spotlight: Teresa Roth – liked to eat spaghetti and to shop. Lisa Winckler – liked to ride her bike and her favorite teacher was Mr. Rauch.

The District Tourney was held on February 18th – 22nd in Springfield. Diane Fees and James Borin were married on January 25th at the Trinity Presbyterian Church. The couple was to live in Michigan. Notice – Mrs. Lee Haenfler was to be serving spring formals. Make sure to schedule your appointment early. Jolly Roger – Awards were given to DAR Rep to Linda Koehn and The Betty Crocker Award to Charmaine Muller. Senior Spotlights: Jonna Hebner liked sports, English, steak reading and watching TV. Terry Wormsbecker liked hunting, oil painting and the color red. Dennis Brandt did not like school lunch, but did enjoy track and The Monkees.

Avon had 20 debates with other towns. The leading debaters were Duane Reaney, Douglas Steckler, Reid Griffith, Roland Walkes, Beverly Giedd, Betty Holleman, Bill Seiling, Harlan Van Gerpen, Evelyn Arneson and Laval Vesper. Reverend Pinnt purchased a new 1940 Special Delux Chevrolet Sedan. Willis Engle was ill with scarlet fever. The Baptist Ladies Sewing Circle was held on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. E.M. Berndt.
