There was no meeting last Wed. February 19 because we had a Valentine’s Dinner/Silent Auction Fundraiser for the Helping Hands school back pack program on Saturday night, Feb. 22, at Two Spurs. Many attended, couples and singles, and enjoyed either prime rib or shrimp.

HELPING HANDS HOLDS EMPTY BOWL PROJECT

On February 18th, the Helping Hands board held their annual Empty Bowl project in the Wagner Community School gymnasium. They collected $727 on the art projects and $890.50 on the food. Since everything was donated, they had a grand total of $1,617.

Beginning in a basement as a hobby before making the big move to a storefront on Main Street, the popular cellphone repair shop iFix has now blossomed again with a new name and a new twist.

KOST SUCCESS ON MAT AS REDSHIRT

Redshirt freshman Kolby Kost took home Augustana’s lone win of the night in its 27-3 loss to the defending national champion and No. 1 ranked St. Cloud State Huskies. Kost’s dramatic overtime victory came in the 184 pound bout against No. 2 ranked Tyree Overton.

The Wagner Hospital Auxiliary held their monthly meeting February 26, 2020 at 1:30 p.m., with ten members present. President Pearl W. called the meeting to order and members read the Auxiliary Prayer. Minutes from the January meeting were read.

STUDENTS COMPETE IN 14 TH ANNUAL ANDES CENTRAL SCIENCE FAIR

The 14th Annual Andes Central Science Fair was held February 11 with 24 projects entered from students in grades 9-12. Judges were Dr. Michael Farney, Anthony Johansen-Sallee, Kailey Feiner and Emily McDonald from the Dakota Wesleyan University Campus in Mitchell.

Library news

OverDrive is active at the Lake Andes Library. What is Overdrive? It is a free service provided to patrons of the Lake Andes Public Library, which provides them with access to books, magazines and audio books. Overdrive has 25,000 items which can be downloaded to your kindle, i-phone, laptop, etc.

South Dakota State University Announces Dean’s List

The following local students have been named to the dean’s list for academic excellence after the fall 2019 semester at South Dakota State University. To earn dean’s list distinctions in SDSU’s colleges, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and must have earned at least a 3.

Mallix Rodney (6 pounds 6 ounces) and Lux Betty (7 pounds 14 ounches) were born February 6, 2020 in Sumter, SC to parents Trevor and Promise Lensing. Grandparents are Ron and Trish Lensing of Wagner, Betty Taylor of Wagner, Norby Bates of Wagner and Beth Middleton of St. Paul, MN.
