LABOR DAY LEGION FLAGS

Wagner Labor Day would not be what it is without the Wagner Legion Greer Post #11. Every year without fail, they gather on the Friday of Labor Day weekend to place the flags up in the park and then take them down Labor Day Monday evening. This year was no exception.

President Becky Brunsing gave the Rotary Bell a good whack which resulted in an ear-splitting ring that got everyone’s attention immediately. There were two guests present, Chris and Barbara Jacobi from Connecticut. Chris is a nephew of Rotarian Kathe Henke.

HANSON - EARLY BIRD TOURNAMENT RESULTS

The Lady Pirates traveled to Alexandria last week to start their volleyball season at the Hanson - Early Bird Tournament. Session 1 was played on Tuesday, August 22nd and found the Pirates facing off at the net against Wessington Springs where the Lady Pirates took the win 2-0.

NEW SIGNAGE AT AVON FARMERS COOP

Avon Farmers Coop Fuel Station is all decked out with some new signage. The station has gone through several improvements including cleaning up the back lot, new sign, and is now undergoing remodeling inside. They appreciate all the people of Avon for supporting them.

AUXILIARY DONATES DICTIONARIES TO AVON THIRD GRADERS

Avon American Legion Auxiliary Arthur Wissman Unit 150 donated dictionaries to Loretta Knodel’s third graders Tuesday, August 22nd. Unit 150’s annual Dictionary Project helps promote literacy in the community. Making the presentation were Unit President Mary Hurd and Unit Treasurer Florence Powers.

KENNY POWERS IS BEING HONORED AS THE AUGUST VETERAN OF THE MONTH

Kenny is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. In December of 1962, Powers joined the National Guard and was a part of the Springfield Engineering Unit. He was 17 at the time. Being he was 17, he had to wait a year until he was able to go to basic training.

ANDES CENTRAL NEW STAFF MEMBER SPOTLIGHT- TERRA SPAANS

The Andes Central School District has a new preschool/ head start teacher this year. Terra Spaans joins the Andes Central teaching staff as a firstyear teacher. Terra recently graduated with her degree in early childhood education.

ANDES CENTRAL CLASS OF 1972 HOLDS GET TOGETHER

A great evening of reminiscing with old friends was held Sunday, August 27, when members of the Class of 1972 and some of their spouses gathered at the Meridian Corner near Yankton.
