The Andes Central School District has a new preschool/ head start teacher this year. Terra Spaans joins the Andes Central teaching staff as a firstyear teacher. Terra recently graduated with her degree in early childhood education. She previously worked as a special and general education paraprofessional for the Corsica-Stickney elementary school for four years.

Spaans was born and raised in Stickney, SD. She currently lives on her family farm with her husband of four years, Marshall, and daughter, Norra. Her family farm has cows and dogs. She has 4 farm dogs named Royal, Piper, Abby and CC and a puppy named Blaze. The Disney movie Ferdinand is her favorite movie. Terra hopes to one day travel to and explore Hawaii. Spaans is an active member of the Stickney Helping Hands Committee and prior to having her daughter was on the Stickney Volunteer Fire Department for five years.

Meeting the families and children that will be in her classroom this school year has been a highlight for Terra. She has also enjoyed getting to know the welcoming and friendly staff at Andes Central. Terra’s classroom goals are to make family and community connections. These connections are an important part of what Terra hopes will create a special, positive relationship between her and her students.
