The Avon Pirates (8-0) hosted the Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots on Friday, October 15th. The Pirates fought a close game to the end and came away with the 30-28 victory.

Coach Cameron said, “The first two sets went very well. The girls are getting comfortable with their new rotation. They did a good job executing new plays. They passed and served well. The attackers had some nice sets to finish at the net.” The third and fourth set were a bit different. Cameron stated, “The girls came out a little too relaxed, and Centervile came out ready to play. In the fourth set it was challenging to get our momentum back, but we ended up winning the match in a close fourth set.”

Read moreThe Avon Pirates (7-0) defeated the Centerville Tornadoes 76-42 and claimed the title of 2021 Great Plains Conference Champions this last Friday October 8th. Brady Bierema led the Pirate offense with 30 carries, 306 yards and four touchdowns. Jaden Stahl followed with 101 yards, 3 touchdowns and an interception. Lincoln Thury also rushed the ball for 40 yards and Caleb Wallinga had 14 yards on the night with 1 touchdown for the Pirates.

Lexi Schoenfelder and Anna DeHaan led the Girls Team finishing in 7th and 9th places while improving their personal season times to 20:38 and 20:40. Seventh Grader, Eilie De-Haan ran her first 5K and took 18th place with a time of 22:18. Sonya Hansum struggled with leg cramps and finished thirty-second. Tony Hansum, who has been working hard to break 20 minutes in a 5K, ran a 20:16 to earn 32nd place in the Boys Varsity.
