June 25, 2025, was President Jordan Weber’s last meeting as President for our Rotary Year. Jordan rang the Rotary bell, and all members stood to recite the Rotary Prayer. There were no guests for the day, so we went right to singing “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” led by Rotarian Gerrit Juffer.

The humidity and fog were no match for the 30+ Cross Country Runners attending the Pickstown Running Camp. The Morning of June 25th was a sticky one yet, these runners all took on the 3 mile run that morning with grace. That is what runners do; they run when they want to and when they need to, no matter the weather.

What started as childhood memories for Brylie Link in the kitchen helping her mom and grandma has blossomed into a budding small business for one local baker. “I always wanted to be a part of the baking they were doing, and once I got older, I realized that I could share my talent with other people by taking custom orders and creating Christmas goodie boxes,” Brylie shared. The 17-year-old baker is the daughter of Todd and Linsay Link of Wagner.

Lots of memories were shared at the Ravinia All School Reunion this past Saturday night, June 28, at the Ravinia Fire Hall. And what better way to start off those memories than to walk through the door and hear the taped music of everybody's favorite Bures Bohemian Band. Jan (Schmidt) Schiferl started the program welcoming everyone in attendance with Richard Dvorak adding a welcome message and dinner prayer. Following the meal, Dave Honomichl gave the Foundation Report and 'Words of Wisdom' were given by Ernie Ray Bures. Jean Barkley relayed greetings from Tom Brokaw who had attended Ravinia and Pickstown Schools and shared stories of his early years living in the area. Jean and Jan got the crowd involved in a musical game 'Name that Tune' asking everyone to sing the title of the song and guess the year it was recorded. The evening ended with former cheerleaders leading the crowd in the school song, 'On Ravinia.' Plans are to hold next year's All School Reunion on June 27, 2026. Committee members were Carl and Loretta Soulek, Jan Schiferl, Wanda Anderson and Jean Barkley. A shout out to Chad Soulek for preparing the meal, the Ravinia Fire Department for the use of the building and their assistance. The last graduating class from Ravinia was 1967.

The Wagner American Legion and Wagner American Legion Auxiliary recently sent delegates to their respective 2025 State Conventions. The annual four-day event was held in Huron on June 19 – 22. The state conventions for both organizations along with the Sons of the American Legion are held in the same hotel/convention center as many members belong to both the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.

Paul Weidenbach and Pam Hartman, two Legion Riders from the Scotland area, were also in attendance for the meal. Also in attendance were Marcella Strand and Brenda Jaton. Marcella is the retiring Modern Woodman local director who has assisted the Post in procuring tables and chairs through matching donations. Brenda will be assuming all of Marcella’s roles for Modern Woodman. A round of applause was given to Marcella. Auxiliary President Alyssa Mathis also presented Blue Star banners to Burgess and Jenny Zephier and Pat and Becky Breen who were present as they have children in the active military. They were given a round of applause. A round of applause was also given to tonight’s cooks. Chaplain Don Kotab then gave the invocation. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all followed by the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion. Vice CommanderJohnCrismanthen called the meeting to order.

Thury led the way with 2 hits and a RBI. Lydia Yost had a hit and a RBI. Jordyn Voigt and Rowan Brandt also had hits. Yost pitched for Avon, giving up 3 earned runs and striking out 5. Mt. Vernon Venom 18s 200002 4 Avon 130001 5 In game 2 it was Avon from the start, as they scored six runs in the top of the 1st. They would add 3 in the 2nd and another 6 in the 4th to win 15-3. Kaeli Wallinga led the hitting charge with 2 hits including a double, a walk, 2 RBI, and 2 runs scored. Yost added a triple, while Abby Gretschmann and Kaydence Metzger each had a hit. Thury was on the mound for Avon, surrendering 0 ER and striking out 1. Avon 6306 15 Mt. Vernon Venom 18s 3000 3 Avon's 18U softball team hosted Menno on Thursday, June 26 in a doubleheader. In game one Avon took the lead in the bottom of the 1st off a Macy Voigt single that batted in Rilyn Thury. Avon would later break a 1-1 tie by scoring 5 in the 5th frame to eventually win 6-3. Voigt and Thury each had 2 hits in the game. Other hitters for Avon included Kaeli Wallinga, Emily Dewald, and Mackenzie Titze. Lydia Yost pitched for Avon, recording 7 strikeouts while giving up 1 earned run. Menno 010002 3 Avon 10005X 6 In game 2 of the night Avon would take control in the third inning with 3 runs and would not look back on their way to 13 hits for the game. Yost would lead the hitting charge for Avon as she was 3 for 4 with a RBI, run scored, and a stolen base. Jordyn Voigt, Thury, and Macy Voigt would all have 2 hits apiece while Wallinga, Dewald, Aubrey Kazena, and Titze all added a hit. M.
