WAGNER MEET RESULTS

Wagner hosted its first track meet in three years on Tuesday, April 12, with 16 teams participating. Conditions were pleasant for the first three hours or so, but unfortunately the winds became too much to bear and the track meet was cancelled after the girls 300 meter hurdles had been run.

Stories From The Golf Courses

When I was in high school, I played a lot of golf at Lake Region Golf Course, a pretty ninehole course near Lake Poinsett. It featured few water hazards and no sand traps, but there was a barber pole on the long par-5 fifth hole. Golfers had to stay to the left as they navigated the dogleg right, otherwise it was a penalty. I always thought was a quirky feature. Then a few years ago we did a story on some of South Dakota’s most unusual golf courses, and I discovered far more idiosyncrasies on the links all over the state.

Grand Opening

Angela Blaha and Amber Mengenhauser, owners of A & A Eatery and Apothecary, are passionate about many things. The two met approximately four years ago when Mengenhauser enrolled in an empowerment class via zoom that Blaha was teaching. The women connected and when Mengenhauser was asked by Blaha what her dream job position would be during the class, she answered that she wanted to be her assistant.

MARJORIE HALL

Marjorie died Saturday, April 23, 2022 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Wagner. Private funeral services are being held. Burial is in the ZCBJ Cemetery, rural Wagner. A public Celebration of Marjorie’s Life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27 at the Wagner Theatre banquet room. Peters Funeral Home in Wagner is in charge of arrangements.

Poem in Your Pocket Day was initiated in April 2002 by the Office of the Mayor in New York City, in partnership with the city's Departments of Cultural Affairs and Education. In 2008, the Academy of American Poets took the initiative to all fifty United States, encouraging individuals around the country to participate. In 2016, the League of Canadian Poets extended Poem in Your Pocket Day to Canada.

USDA ENCOURAGES PRODUCERS TO ENROLL IN GRASSLAND CRP

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) encourages producers and landowners to enroll in the Grassland Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) started on April 4, 2022 and goes through May 13, 2022. Grassland CRP provides a unique opportunity for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural landowners to keep land in agricultural production and supplement their income while improving their soils and permanent grass cover. The program had its highest enrollment in history 2021 and is part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s broader effort to equip producers with the tools they need to help address climate change and invest in the long-term health of our natural resources.
